Menu for the Week of May 21, 2012 — Your Three Day Weekend Awaits!

To make your Memorial Day weekend one you won’t soon forget, this week look for a smaller selection of sausages, with an emphasis on (i.e., MORE of) your favorites for grilling!  

And on that note, this three day weekend around the corner couldn’t be coming at a better time.  We are still recovering from the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival, and we hope you were able to share in our joy by checking out the blogs and pictures posted to our Facebook page!  Still more to come…

One thing that you won’t see in the posts we’ve already made, however, is the fact that we had the pleasure of hosting Bev Eggleston at our home that weekend.  Bev is the founder, owner, and true visionary of Eco Friendly Foods in Virginia — a labor of love, which he describes as a network of growers, buyers, and eaters whose approach to farming and distributing pastured meat supports healthy family farms, small businesses, and dinner tables across the country through a process they call ecological profitability.  If you’ve been into the shop lately and lucked out by snagging some of the (HUGE) Ossabaw pork chops or Ossabaw Genoa salami (sold out last week!), you’ve been tasting Bev’s work.  In addition to being an absolutely wonderful person, who we are now honored to call a friend, he is a force to be reckoned with on the front lines of the fight to change the relationship this country has with the food it consumes.  Bev’s operation is one of the few in the country that connects the rearing and processing of animals.  As many of you know, two of the biggest hurdles our small farmers face are the ability to efficiently (and humanely) process their animals and accessibility to reliable and affordable distribution channels.  Bev provides all of this and more, with the mantra that “we are a community of change!“  Take five minutes and view the YouTube video located at this last hyperlink.  It will make you proud of the work you do every week just by buying local, humanely sourced proteins.
