Menu for the Week of March 18, 2013

Helooooo Atlanta!

Getting back in the swing this week with some thoughts about what’s to come for the city of Atlanta!

Lest we realize where we are without thinking how far we have come?  I am so proud to see the amazing strides that our city and the south has come in the world of culture and great food! Just today I was confronted by not one but two local folks selling mushrooms, one was a forager and the other person was a cultivator of mushrooms. I also had a short conversation with a man who is currently growing and harvesting 100% pure Ossawbaw hogs finished on his own acorn source. WOW! Shortly after that phone call,  I was contacted by a local farmer who makes delicious Sheep’s Milk Cheeses that are looking to harvest some of their delicious mutton straight from their own herd, just a short drive away.  While these snippets of ingredient information might not be overwhelmingly exciting for you, this is the kind of thing that increasingly peaks or should be peaking interest of our cities culinary crusaders.  Just the hint that there is this kind of thought and interest going into the local food supply, should get not only the chefs excited but it should also make your taste buds swoon knowing what can and will be done with these amazing ingredients.  And whether you believe it or not Atlanta, your inquisitive nature, open mind, and culinary curiosity, demanding great food is helping to turn our city into one of the finest food cities in the country!

So keep it up Atlanta, demand better, higher quality meats, better local ingredients, and seek out how to eat the best food you can get! You will not be sorry; after-all, look what you have created in the landscape just over the past five years! As the spring fast approaches, we will be flexing our culinary muscle to get our menu’s tweaked and provide you with  splendid spring offerings filled with innovative, fresh, and delicious new items!   Keep questioning and taking just a minute before each meal to ask, is this the best we can get?  As Socrates said ” The unexamined life is not worth living”, so don’t be afraid to ask yourself, “Is unexamined food worth eating?”  Thank you Atlanta and……
