Menu for the Week of June 4, 2012 — New Menu Items & Learn More About Wholesome Wave!

This week we welcome several new items to the menu:  cheeses from the Southeast and abroad, two new fresh sausages, and a brand new honey bourbon and black pepper bacon!

We are obviously thrilled to continue to expand our menu each week, but every time we write our weekly offerings, we remind ourselves that purchasing wholesome, local food isn’t an option for everyone.  It’s this sad reality that makes the work of the Georgia Chapter of Wholesome Wave so incredibly important.  Wholesome Wave Georgia believes that all Georgians should have access to good, wholesome and locally-grown food. The organization’s goal is to increase access to good food for all Georgians while contributing to the local food economy. They do this through private donations — which allow it to double each federal or state nutrition benefit (SNAP, WIC, SFMNP) dollar spent at its partner markets.

The Spotted Trotter is honored to appear each week at three farmers markets that use the Wholesome Wave program, where every nutrition benefit dollar spent becomes two dollars for the shopper and for the farmer.  If you didn’t know about this program before, read up, and tell everyone you know.  It is the ultimate win-win for communities who so desperately need access to good, wholesome food, and for the farmers who so deserve the opportunity to provide it!
