Menu for the Week of June 3, 2013 — Exhausted Reflections on the Third Annual Food & Wine Festival!

Yesterday, the third annual Atlanta Food & Wine Festival took its final bow.  If it hadn’t, and had decided to go on for another day, I’m not sure we’d be awake (or alive) to be sending this post.  Yet again, it was an amazing weekend full of fun and flavor, but just like every single year, we pushed ourselves to the absolute limit.  That being said, it was worth every single sleepless night, and we hope some of you were able to come out and enjoy the festivities.  Friday night, The Spotted Trotter provided appetizers at a dinner hosted by Kevin Gillespie at his new restaurant The Gunshow.  It was an absolute honor to be cooking beside not only an amazing chef, but one of the nicest people the city of Atlanta can be proud of.  Saturday morning, we were up early cooking breakfast in the Connoisseur Lounge, and then it was time for a class with Ale Sharpton on beer pairings and meaty goodness.  Perhaps the highlight there?  Master Beer Sommelier from Stella Artois, Marc Stroobandt stopped by and got in on the conversation, which was fascinating (plus that meant we had a direct hookup for Stellas in the tasting tents on Sunday!).  Our big finale came on Sunday this year, when we participated again in the tasting tents.  We’ll upload pictures soon, but we had a blast and debuted several new display pieces, and we hope everyone enjoyed the food.  A special thank you to our two (of many) amazing employees Ofer Ayal and Bert Sheffield for sweating it out all week and then in the tents.  We couldn’t have done it without them!

So, hopefully the above summary was at least helpful in explaining — but not excusing — how bad we’ve been about putting up regular posts this year.  We’re back in regular rotation now and want everyone to know that part of our silence has been due to training up a new crew in the kitchen, but more importantly, putting together a business plan and trying to obtain financing to hopefully expand The Spotted Trotter and open up a small restaurant in 2014.  Stay tuned for more details (and hopefully a “We did it!” announcement) coming soon, but we’ve really had our heads down for the past couple of months trying to make the next phase of TST happen, and it’s been zapping every extra ounce of brain matter and creative juices we can muster up.

Thank you as always for all of your continued support and interest in supporting local food and small business.  We couldn’t even be thinking about Phase 2 (or is this Phase 3 or 4 or 5?!?) without all that you’ve done to get us here.
